Operation exit: technology to achieve zero road deaths
The main supplier of the radars used by the DGT is Tradesegur, manufacturers of the Doppler and Lidar systems to know the exact speed at which the vehicles circulate.
This summer is expected to produce some 8.3 million trips by road . The August exit operation began last Friday and ends on Tuesday, August 1. One of the objectives of the DGT is that the number of accidents be reduced to reach minimum figures.
For this, one of its allies is the technology that manages to discover drivers who exceed the speed limits allowed and can cause accidents. The main supplier of the radars used by the DGT is the Spanish technology company Tradesegur . "The technology behind the vast majority of radars deployed by the DGT is the Doppler", explains Juan Salinas, head of the Technical Office of Tradesegur.
The so-called 'Doppler effect' consists of the frequency variation that occurs when the wave receiver moves with respect to the emitter or vice versa. Thus, by measuring these variations in the waves, the speed of the vehicle can be detected. "Our equipment allows a total of six lanes to be controlled simultaneously ", says Salinas- "and they can capture speeds of over 290 km / h".
Doppler radars allow six lanes to be controlled at the same time and capture speeds of up to 290 km / h
Therefore, this type of radars are located mainly on multi-lane roads. They also have much lighter equipment than the previous ones, weighing only 1.5 kg and can be transported comfortably in a suitcase and in 5 minutes they are installed in the control point. It is the Lidar system , which emits a burst of pulses of light at intervals calibrated in time.
"These pulses are reflected in the vehicle whose speed we want to measure, bounces and returns to the device. The speed is calculated by observing how the time it takes to collect the reflected laser beam over a defined period of time changes, "explains Salinas.
Bet on R & D
From Tradesegur, who have been offering their own technology to the DGT for more than 35 years to help in the surveillance of Spanish roads, they emphasize that their focus is on research and development of new products, to which they dedicate their % of its annual turnover . "The constant evolution of our environment and the advances in the field of telecommunications, electronics and IT requires us to be up-to-date in order to offer our customers a tailor-made solution," says the head of the company's Technical Office.
